Blog - Future Excitement

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Exciting times are coming ahead for me in game development:

First of all, this weekend is GDX, and I'm very excited for it as I love attending game development conferences and the speakers for this year look great!

Also, at GDX the results of the Entelechy competition will be announced, so here's to hoping one of the games I submitted wins something!
It's always nice, after all, to add that a game I've done is award-winning. ;)

But wait, there's more! You can look forward to seeing a couple postmortems on games I've done to appear somewhere on the internet in the near future!
I'll keep you updated on that, of course.

Wee!

Blog - A Slight Pause to Catch my Breath

Friday, March 14, 2008

Well, finals are completed, and my submissions are in for this year's Entelechy show (SCAD's annual game development/interactive design student competition, with exhibitions at GDX).

I submitted a flash game project, a board game, and a card game.
My professor is also apparently going to submit all our final projects from one of our classes to the competition as well, which would add a second board game into the mix.
So, out of all that, hopefully something I did is award winning!

I'm also particularly pleased with the flash project, as it got far more completed for the competition than I though.
There were so many problems with my code that I thought I wouldn't get rid of in time. I didn't even end up having nearly as much time to work on the code as I thought I would yesterday. Even so, all the problems melted away, and I was able to submit the game as I had wanted.

So, now I have a week off until spring quarter begins. I'll get to breathe a little, but not quite: there's still work to be done!
Of course some of that "work" is just getting around to finally playing some of the games I've been meaning to (needing to) play for a while now. I consider that legitimate work in my case. I also plan on whipping together a few more Frets on Fire tracks.

However, I have some actual work to do over the break as well. I think I'll keep those projects a secret for now, though...

Also, the artist on my flash project expressed interest in continuing work on the flash game we submitted to the competition, so some of that might happen over break as well.

In any case, the upside for you readers is that I'll likely be back on a "post-every-day" schedule again for a while now.
